Wood Anatomy course 2016
03.09.2016
With the support of the Association of Studies of tree rings (Association for Tree-Ring Research), Institute of Forest SB RAS (Krasnoyarsk), PAO "RusHydro" and, together with the Swiss National Research Institute of forests, snow and landscape (the WSL), the Siberian Federal University and the National park "Shushensky Bor" Khakass technical Institute will be one of the organizers of the International Summer school of Ecology and plant anatomy, which will be held from 1 to 8 August 2016. The school program includes a one-day expedition for selection in vivo samples and environmental monitoring characteristics of the region, as well as theoretical and practical classes on the basic principles and methods of dendroecology, xylem anatomy and application of acquired knowledge in the evaluation of climatic and geomorphological processes, forest fires, forest ecosystem dynamics, hydrology and plant physiology. Practical lessons include: obtaining thin sections of plant specimens in the microtome, microscopic studies, digital image processing, measurement of cell parameters. Particular attention is paid to the cellular structure of tree rings and mathematical modeling of growth and function. Coordinators and school instructors will be some of the lead researchers in the study of tree rings: Prof. Dr. Fritz H. Schweingruber, WSL, Prof. Dr. Evgene Vaganov (SFU), Dr. Nikolai Stepanov (SFU), Dr. Patrick Fonti (WSL), Dr. Marina V. Bryukhanova (Institute of forest SB RAS), Dr. Vladimir V. Shishov (SFU).
