Training in WSL
02.08.2016
From December 22, 2015 to January 31, 2016 junior researcher Tatiana Kostyakova visited the laboratory of dendroecology group of the Swiss Federal Research Institute (WSL) in Birmensdorf.
Under the guidance of Professor Fritz Shcweingruber she learned the basics techniques of wood anatomy studies, such as sample preparation, preparation of thin slides, staining and description of microscopic structure. These methodological steps allow analyzing of plant samples from different biogeographical zones of the Altai-Sayan region.
Tatiana made a talk as part of BTRL (lectures on the annual rings in Birmensdorf), entitled "Ecological and anatomical study of plants in Central Siberia, Sayan Mountains" (01/19/2016).
Tatiana is very grateful to the head of dendroecology group Dr. Ulf Buntgen for the opportunity to do an internship in the laboratory, and Dr. Prof. Fritz Shcweingruber for the knowledge and warm welcome.
